Reading Across Horizons Shared Reading Session cum Joint Primary and Secondary School 30 minute Read

 

Nine Student Librarians participated in the “Reading Across Horizons” Shared Reading Session cum Joint Primary and Secondary School 30‑minute Read, organised by the Education Bureau on 23rd  April at Kai Tak Sports Park. They contributed to setting a Guinness World Record for the “Largest Multimodal Reading Lesson”.

Witnessed by Professor Zhu Xinhua of Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Mr. Chan Chi Kin of the Curriculum Development Council, the lesson involved over a thousand teachers and students on-site and over 30,000 participants online. An official Guinness World Records adjudicator presented the certificate to Miss Katharine Choi Man-yee, Acting Deputy Secretary for Education.

The lesson was led by famous host Mr. Lam Po‑loy (Patrick Sir), singer Alfred Hui Ting‑hang, and Playback Theatre instructor Mr Chan Ying‑kwok.

During the session, our student He Pin Ru shared her perspectives on multimodal reading when invited by the host. The event concluded with a collective recital of the “Reading Declaration” and a thirty-minute shared reading period. Subsequently, He and her fellow schoolmate Chew Chiu Man Sherman were interviewed on RTHK’s programme “18 Hours of Sunshine” to share reading tips.

Additionally, the School Principal, Dr. Mui Lai Yuk, alongside students Chung Uen Ting and Wong Hoi Ki, participated in a telephone interview on the same programme to discuss the school’s strategies for promoting reading and the implementation of multimodal reading in teaching.
